Boost Mobile Pro Surf Contest ON HOLD – KEYS TO THE CONTINENT TODAY
Rob Machado teamed up with Kelly Slater to form "Team America" in the "Keys to the Continent" part of the Boost Mobile Pro Surf Contest presented by Hurley
LOWER TRESTLES, California (Friday, Sept. 14, 2007) – Event organizers at the Boost Mobile Pro Surf Contest presented by Hurley have postponed Round 4 today, opting to run the Hurley “Keys to the Continent” presented by Foster’s instead.

“The swell has improved and transition from the Northwest wind swell to a true South swell, but it’s still a bit small and inconsistent,” Event Director Mike Parsons said. “Our forecasters at Surfline have projected that the swell will be filling in tonight and through tomorrow, so we’re hoping to run the remaining 15 heats in good surf.”
The second annual Hurley "Keys to the Continent" event is scheduled to take place at Lower Trestles later this morning. Hurley's "Keys to the Continent" challenge brings surfers from different regions together in a team competition to determine which one is the strongest in pro surfing today.
With a $20,000 prize purse and collection of gifts to be split among surfers from the winning region, Hurley's "Keys to the Continent" consists of two riders from each represented territory. Each surfer counts his best individual wave scores, plus a third "shared" wave, where teammates are required to ride a wave together.
After the first round, the best three regions will advance into the finals, where early scores carry over. The winning team shares the prizes with every competing surfer from their region, even though only two surfers actually participate.
"Hurley's 'Keys to the Continent' presented by Fosters is taking place right in the middle of what has been an amazing event so far,” Hurley Surf Marketing Manager Pat O’Connell. “With the excitement and surprising eliminations in Round 3, Hurley’s ‘Keys to the Continent’ will prove to be extra entertaining to watch."
Points earned in Hurley’s “Keys to the Continent” event will go towards each region’s Foster’s Surf Showdown ratings total.
Current Foster’s Surf Showdown Ratings (after Event 5 - Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay):
1st - USA - 5016 pts
2nd - Australia - 4860 pts (2006 Hurley “Keys to the Continent” winner)
3rd - Foster's Rookies - 4707 pts
4th - South Africa - 4071 pts
5th - Brazil - 3876 pts
6th - Hawaii - 2568 pts (n/s at Bells)
