OCEANSIDE, California/USA (Wednesday, August 8, 2012) ? The inaugural ASP 6-Star Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro is set to host an 80-woman field at South Oceanside Pier from August 9 through 11, 2012.
The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro is the only women?s ASP qualifying event on the ASP North America calendar and the crucial ASP 6-Star points have drawn top talent from around the globe as they search for their spot among the ASP Top 17 for 2013.
Sage Erickson (Ventura, CA), 21, finished her ASP WCT campaign strong, notching her best result of the season with a win over freshly crowned five-time ASP Women?s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 24, oh her way to the Quarterfinals and is looking to carry her momentum from Huntington Beach to Oceanside.
?Going into the Paul Mitchell Super Girl pro I have a refreshed outlook on competitive surfing,? Erickson said. ?This year I?ve had quite a few up and down results for me and having a breakthrough during the US Open has really inspired me and lit a fire within to push a little harder and really strive to become better every day! Beating a couple of amazing opponents also definitely fired me up.?
Erickson, current No. 4 on the ASP Women?s World Ranking, is in a good position to rejoin next year?s elite due to her efforts in ASP 6-Star events and is looking to further climb the rankings with another standout performance at the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro.
?I?m really hungry for a big win,? Erickson said. ?I?ve watched many girls this year reach that podium finish and I?m starting to see myself there. It starts with a dream and becomes a vision. I know I have much to improve on and think I?m really willing to put the work in now. My good friend Lakey?s win at the US Open has me so inspired and my brother Noah has been coaching me so I?m excited to see where that leads me as well.?
Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 19, finished the year fifth overall on the women?s ASP WCT, racking up her first event victory en route to her top five finish and is now heading to Oceanside to solidify her successful 2012 campaign. The dedicated regular-footer plans to utilize the Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro to keep her competitive skills sharp in preparation for her ASP Women?s World Title campaign and is out to enjoy the event following the completion of the women?s ASP WCT season.
