CAPBRETON, France (Wednesday, July 11, 2012) - The ASP 1-Star Men and Women’s Sooruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior is set to commence tomorrow July 12, 2012 at the Cote Sauvage, Royan. This exciting new stop on the European schedule will ignite a busy summer leg of Pro Junior events that will culminate in late August with the crowning of the European Junior Champions a little further down the French coast at the iconic beach break of Lacanau.
With Summer holidays just starting in France and globally in Europe, tourists have flown in from everywhere and the beautiful site of ‘La Côte Sauvage’ is in for an exciting four-days of competition during the official waiting period! Surfers from several regions of the World including Guadalupe, Reunion Island, Tahiti, South Africa as well as Morocco, Germany and the Canary Islands are present for the inaugural edition of the Sooruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior. Rob Gunning, ASP Europe’s Tour Manager is looking forward to launching this new event.
“It’s always great to add new locations to the European Tour” Gunning stated. “I’m sure most of the surfers don’t really know the place and it will be a great opportunity for them to discover yet another part of our European coastline. The Royan Surf Club has a strong background of organizing such events and I think everyone is just really looking forward to start the event.”
Forecasts show a dramatic increase in swell towards the end of the week to reach the 7-8Ft range with dominant winds coming from the West, making for some extreme conditions for the best European Juniors to battle with. More than 130 competitors Men and Women included have congregated in Charentes and are ready to put on the coloured jersey and paddle out towards precious ranking points and prizemoney.
“Royan is definitely an important event in this year’s Junior title race” Gunning said. “There are four Junior events that separate us from the crowning of our Champions and each of them will be crucial in the hunt for ranking points.”
The 2012 Sooruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior will run from July 12-15 at la Côte Sauvage, Entry 46 (parking du vieux phare), Royan / France. To find out more, please visit www.aspeurope.com
