MUNDAKA, Spain (Wednesday, October 4, 2006) – With heavy grey skies sending buckets of water over the northern region of Spain and with howling unfavourable winds and no swell it was inevitable that a lay day would be called for the Billabong Pro Mundaka today.

But despite today looking ugly now the predictions from official swell forecaster www.surfline.com show plenty of promise for the upcoming weekend and into next week.

Check out the Swell Model!

“The longer range potential is looking up not only for this weekend, but now also into early next week,” said Surfline’s Kevin Wallis. “We are watching an area of low pressure off the north east corner of the United States this evening, which is forecast to slide across the Atlantic over the next 48 to 72 hours. Current charts indicate this low will intensify west south west of Ireland early Thursday morning, spawning west north west swell that would rapidly build through the day on Saturday. We might even see this swell start to creep up over the afternoon on Friday, especially on the low/incoming tide.”

When the ninth event on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour restarts it will head straight into round one, heat nine containing Andy Irons (HAW), Fred Patacchia (HAW) and wildcard Hira Terinatoofa (PYF).

After missing his heat yesterday Kelly Slater (USA) appeared at the event site last night looking at ease with the fact that he could claim the world title here with a win.

It’s alleged that the seven-time Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour champion missed the round one affair due to having an extended lay over in France.

Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning and will make a call regarding continuing with round one at 7.30am sharp.

Stay tuned to www.aspworldtour.com or www.billabongpro.com for all the updates.
