Taj Burrow (AUS), 33, will kick off his 2012 ASP World Championship Tour campaign in Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover.
GOLD COAST, Queensland/Australia (Saturday, February 25, 2012) – The world’s best surfers have hit the water for the commencement of the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour season as Round 1 of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover will commence at 11:15am in three-to-four foot righthanders at Snapper Rocks.
Event No. 1 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour season, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast will feature the world’s best surfers including reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 40, 2011 ASP World Runner-Up and former event champion Joel Parkinson (AUS), 30, Gold Coast stablemate Mick Fanning (AUS), 30, as well as the youth brigade represented by Gabriel Medina (BRA), 18, Kolohe Andino (AUS), 17, and Julian Wilson (AUS), 23.
“We’re anticipating the conditions to improve throughout the afternoon with the tide dropping,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “The men’s Round 1 will commence at 11:15am and we expect to run all 12 heats of the opening round of competition.”
Up first this morning will be Adriano de Souza (BRA), 24, Kieren Perrow (AUS), 34, and Taylor Knox (USA), 40, in the opening heat of competition.
