Raoni Monteiro (BRA), 30, will take on reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 40, in Round 3 of the Rip Curl Pro Portugal?
SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Tuesday, October 16, 2012) – Event organizers have called a lay day for the Rip Curl Pro Portugal, with only small onshore waves available at the primary venue of Supertubos.
Event No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal plays a crucial role in both the hunt for the 2012 ASP World Title and the requalification campaigns of the world’s best surfers. Event organizers will wait for better conditions before recommencing competition.
“Conditions are not up to standard this morning and we’ve called competition off for the day,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We have plenty of swell on the way – the challenge will be finding the appropriate window with the conditions. We also have a significant storm on the way which may threaten the event site. We’ll see how the next few days unfold.”
When competition resumes, up first will be Taj Burrow (AUS), 34, up against Kolohe Andino (USA), 18, in Heat 3 of Round 3 at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
