The Rip Curl Pro Portugal will await the return of cleaner conditions before recommencing competition.
SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Wednesday, October 17, 2012) – Stormy conditions have prompted event organizers to call competition off for the day as the Rip Curl Pro Portugal approaches the final four days of its waiting period.
Stop No. 8 of 10 on the 2012 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal plays a crucial role in both the hunt for the 2012 ASP World Title and the requalification campaigns of the world’s best surfers. Event organizers will wait for better conditions before recommencing competition.
“As projected, we have stormy conditions out there today and have called competition off for the day,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We anticipate improving conditions over the next few days and will return tomorrow morning to make another call.”
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7:45am to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.
When competition resumes, up first will be Taj Burrow (AUS), 34, up against Kolohe Andino (USA), 18, in Heat 3 of Round 3 at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal.
