ITACARE, Bahia / Brazil (Monday, Aug, 26, 2013) - The tropical setting to the coastal town of Itacare, in the state of Bahia, Brazil, will host the ASP 4-Star Mahalo Surf Eco Festival presented by Skol from October 15-19 at Tiririca Beach, where U$95,000 in prize money and 1,000 ASP World Ranking points will be on offer to the event winner and in addition, will also crown the 2013 ASP South America Surf Series champion.
“We’re pleased with the changes this year to the Surf Eco Festival,” stated Railton Lemos of Dende Productions, which has organized the ASP events in Bahia since 2008. “After four years of the contest in Salvador, the mayor of Itacaré (Jarbas Barros) was kind enough to host the event and was also made possible by the local sponsor. I’d like to thank Mr. Barros, Tony from Mahalo, who has always been a supporter in the surf industry, to Petrobras, which is promoting eco-awareness and Skol, which will be providing the entertainment and musical acts.”
The Surf Eco Festival has hosted ASP Men’s, Women’s and Junior competitions in Bahia and was first held at Praia do Forte in 2008, where Adriano de Souza (BRA) and Silvana Lima (BRA) came out victorious. Other winners included in the event’s history are Alejo Muniz (BRA) in 2009, Miguel Pupo (BRA) in 2010, and Filipe Toledo (BRA) in 2011.
“The confirmation of this ASP 4-Star event in Itacare was great news for the surfers that are striving for a boost in the rankings on the world circuit,” said ASP South America regional director, Roberto Perdigao. “In the name of the ASP, our events and affiliated surfers, I’d like to thank and congratulate Railton Lemos for his dedication to running this event and to Mahalo for the enormous support that they have given to the surfing events here in Brazil.”
The Mahalo Surf Eco Festival presented by Skol is produced by Dende Producoes and is sponsored by Mahalo, Petrobras, Bahiatursa, the city of Itacare and is supported by Backdoor, the Itacare Department of Tourism, the Bahia Surf Federation, and the Itacare Surf Association.
