ASP WCT alternate Willian Cardoso will be the top seed at the inaugural ASP 3-Star Rip Curl Pro Argentina.
PLAYA GRANDE, Mar Del Plata, Argentina (Monday, March 18, 2013) - After a 12 year hiatus, ASP competition will return to Argentina with the 3-Star Rip Curl Pro, unfolding from March 29 through April 2 at the beautiful beach city of Mar Del Plata.
Brazilian standout Willian Cardoso, an alternate on the ASP WCT, will lead the field of top professionals in the draw at the inaugural Rip Curl Pro Argentina as the event’s top seed. In addition to Cardoso, fellow Brazilians including Hizunome Bettero, Jano Belo and Paulo Moura will take on the likes of Peruvians Gabriel Villaran and Miguel Tudela as well as Costa Rican Carlos Munoz among other impressive international talents.
“For us, the Argentines, the new Rip Curl event is very special,” said Martin Passeri, Argentinian surfing icon. “Everyone here wants to measure ourselves against the best, but we haven’t had the opportunity. These tournaments came to the country when I was growing up in my surfing, from 95 to 2001, and it gave me a real head start. This will be a great opportunity for the local up and comers.”
In addition to the top international names in the draw, Santiago Muniz, Leandro Usuna, Lucas Santamaria, Marcelo RodrÃguez, Nahuel Rull and Maxi Prenski will be out to clinch the Rip Curl Pro Puerto Rico on their home soil.
In addition to the ASP 3-Star event, the Rip Curl Pro Argentina will host parties, bands and Djs as well as skate and art exhibitions.
