LOS CABOS, Baja California Sur, Mexico (Friday, March 15, 2013) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Los Cabos Open of Surf has officially been added to the ASP North America schedule, unfolding at Cabo’s righthand cobblestone pointbreak of Zippers from June 17 through 23, 2013.
The addition of the Los Cabos Open of Surf further develops the Latin region of ASP events and marks the first of three major contests slated to unfold between Mexico and El Salvador this season.
“Latin America is really beginning to establish a strong presence on the ASP North America schedule and we’re excited to have the addition of the Los Cabos Open of Surf as a new addition to 2013,” Meg Bernardo, ASP North America Executive Manager said. “We’ve seen rapid growth in events between Mexico and El Salvador over the past five years and the new Los Cabos event will showcase one of many quality locations that Mexico has to offer.
” With several budding talents emerging from both Mexico, Central and South America, the Los Cabos Open of Surf’s ASP 6-Star status will allow several up-and-comers the chance to assert their talents among some of the world’s top qualifying hopefuls while competing close to home.
“We’ve seen so many incredible performances from the underground Latinos in recent events,” Brian Robbins, ASP North America Tour Manager said. “The Los Cabos Open of Surf will be the perfect platform for young Latin surfers to mix it up with some big international names and establish themselves on a global level while securing big points towards their ranking.”
As a side note, the Los Cabos Open of Surf will also include a series of beach concerts with international artists and DJ’s, beach bars, a food fair offering fresh, local cuisine, fashion shows featuring some of the top surf brands, art walks and eco-friendly activities, showcasing the best of the surf lifestyle.
The ASP and Los Cabos Tourism Board welcome this new annual addition to the North America Schedule.
