SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Thursday, October 10, 2013) – With small surf on offer this morning, event organizers have called a lay day for competition at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche.
Event No. 9 of 10 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), the Rip Curl Pro Portugal completed Round 1 of competition yesterday in clean conditions at Supertubos and event organizers will resume competition when conditions improve.
“Virtually no surf on offer this morning so we have called competition off for the day,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “We tracking some swell models showing potential over the coming days so we will return tomorrow to assess conditions and make another call then.”
When competition resumes, up first will be Mick Fanning (AUS), 32, against Fancisco Alves (PRT), 20, in the opening heat of the elimination Round 2.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7:45am to assess conditions for a possible 8am start.
