SYDNEY (Monday, 17 June 2013) - Surfing NSW and ASP Australasia are delighted to announce a new forthcoming 1-Star ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series event, The Maxum Women’s Pro Junior 2013 at Cronulla.
The new ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series event will be implemented into the two-day Dominelli Group Women’s Surf Classic, which will kick off on the 21st September.
The Maxum Women’s Pro Junior 2013 will kick off the 2013/2014 ASP Australasia Women’s Pro Junior Series and a new three-year partnership between Surfing NSW and Maxum Watches.
Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon says: “It’s great to see brand like Maxum supporting junior surfing on a grassroots level. They’ve acknowledged that ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series events are an important pathway for surfers who would like to go on to qualify for the ASP Women’s World Tour.”
ASP Australasia General Manager Dane Jordan added: “It’s fantastic that Maxum Watches and Surfing NSW have come together to add this new event to the calendar and we are proud to be working with them. The ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series is a critical part of the career pathway that has produced over one third of the current Women’s WCT surfers, including 5x ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore and current ratings leader Tyler Wright. The Maxum Women’s Pro Junior will help ensure that this tradition continues and that Australasia continues to produce future ASP World Champions.”
As part of the three-year deal, Maxum will also be giving away an exclusive opportunity to one key participant in their event to be a part of the Maxum team, which will include the surfer featured in surfing and lifestyle media and campaigns across Australia.
Maxum Brand Manager Mitch Tighe says “We’re absolutely thrilled to be onboard for the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series event. Maxum watches are designed for Australian surf conditions, so to be aligned with junior surfing is a perfect fit for our brand”.
In addition to the Australasia Pro Junior Series event, the Dominelli Group Women’s Surf Classic will see some of Australia’s best female surfers participating in a variety of different surfing disciplines including junior and open longboard, shortboard and stand-up paddleboard.
2013 is the fifth year the Dominelli Group Women’s Surf Classic has run at Cronulla.
In addition to the event, Surfing NSW will be conducting its free CPR and Board Rescue Course Surfers Rescue 24/7 over the course of the weekend.
Tradies at Gymea will also host a gala dinner on the Saturday night as a celebration for women in sport.
