HOSSEGOR, France (Tuesday, September 24, 2013) - Round 1 of the Roxy Pro France is ON this morning in clean two-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at the backup venue of La Penon in Hossegor, France, with a full day of competition scheduled for the opening day of the waiting period.
Stop No. 7 of 8 on the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour (WCT), the Roxy Pro France was originally scheduled to unfold in July, but was rescheduled due to a lack of surf. The new waiting period of September 24 through 30 is set to see the ASP Top 17 take on the world-class beachbreak conditions of Hossegor, with competition beginning this morning at 8am local time.
“We’re going to get started on the opening day of the waiting period at 8:30am,” Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women’s Tour Manager said. “We’re planning on running a full day of competition to capitalize on the swell on offer today with Rounds 1, 2 and 3 expected to surf today. Round 4 is on standby for this afternoon.”
Up first this morning will be five-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 25, rookie Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), 19, and progressive Brazilian Silvana Lima (BRA), 28, in Heat 1 Round 1 of the Roxy Pro France.
